Anisha Kalavar will complete her fellowship with the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC), in Houston, Texas. MEDVAMC is a Veterans Affairs Medical Center that includes but is not limited to services in acute care, spinal cord injury, and mental health. In addition, it is the first VA Medical Center to earn a Gold Seal of Approval in its Advanced Primary Stroke Center and serves as a teaching hospital for healthcare professionals. It is a primary care provider for 130,000 veterans with services provided in the hospital and in 9 community based outpatient clinics in the greater Houston area. Anisha will work directly with the executive team as well as the leadership and staff in the service/care lines within the facility. Rotations and projects will include working with several key areas such as operations, finance, human resources, strategic planning, physician relations, patient safety, quality improvement, and health policy within the VA system. Anisha will gain first-hand experience with policies and procedures at their respective levels of VA governance.

M.H.A. students are encouraged to compete for Administrative Fellowships as part of their post-graduate experience. This fellowship opportunity allows students to work within an organization and experience real world application of the skills they learned during their coursework. Anisha will begin her fellowship in the summer of 2013.
