Sept. 2011: Faculty development conference focuses on CARE

The Texas A&M Health Science Center  Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is an important component of the process of reaffirming accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

The QEP topic is CARE – Critically Appraise Relevant Evidence. Through CARE, our students will learn to apply evidence-based decision-making and critical thinking skills in their chosen field.

The QEP Planning Committee has identified the overarching goals and outcomes that apply to all TAMHSC academic units. Each college is currently writing specific student learning outcomes that apply to their courses and programs.

The health science center hosted a faculty development conference Aug. 4-5 to kick off CARE with discussions on evidence-based decision-making. Topics included the case for evidence-based practice, appraising pre-appraised evidence, strategies for integrating evidence-based practice into the curriculum and creative strategies for teaching. The conference also marked the introduction of the new CARE logo.
