Castro Tapped as COM Associate Dean

Juan Castro, M.D., M.B.A., director of The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center’s Coastal Bend Health Education Center (CBHEC) and assistant professor of family and community medicine at the A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, has been appointed Associate Dean for Coastal Bend Affairs in the College of Medicine.
Dr. Castro has been instrumental in developing a rural family medicine clerkship in Beeville, as well as facilitating educational opportunities with Driscoll Children’s Hospital and the CHRISTUS Spohn Health System. Dr. Castro replaces Dr. William Riley, who was the associate dean for the college in Corpus Christi. Dr. Riley has taken a position at the Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio.
In addition to his role as director of the Coastal Bend Health Education Center, Dr. Castro will be responsible for educational program development and implementation and oversight in quality assurance of undergraduate medical education programs for the College of Medicine in Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend. Dr. Castro will also provide liaison to regional universities and health systems that may wish to enter partnerships with the college on research and educational activities.
