Active for Life ® Receives Award From Archstone Foundation The Active for Life ® program, led by Marcia Ory, Ph.D., at the Texas A&M University System Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health, was recognized by the 2005 Archstone Foundation Award of Excellence with an honorable mention. In conjunction with the Gerontological Health Section of the American Public Health Association, the award was created to recognize the best practice models in gerontology and geriatrics.

Texas A&M HSC Homeland Security Office to Host Suicide Bombers Conference

Texas A&M Health Science Center’s Office of Homeland Security will host a statewide conference on suicide bombers and homeland security to provide the "know-how" about the typology, methodology motivation, preparation, bombs and techniques used by suicide bombers. The conference will be held at the Ramada Inn in College Station on Dec. 6-7.

Howe to Speak at Annual SRPH Ibarra Lecture

John P. Howe III, M.D., the president and chief executive officer of Project HOPE, is the featured speaker at the annual Jesse D. Ibarra, Jr., M.D. Ibarra Lectureship in International Health, sponsored by the Texas A&M University System Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health and the Scott & White Clinic Board. Dr. Howe will present the lecture, “Improving the Health and Well Being of Populations Around the Globe,” on Friday, November 11, 2005, at 8:30 a.m. at the University Park Plaza classroom located at 1103 University Drive in College Station. Dr. Howe will also present the Ibarra Lecture in Temple at 12:30 p.m. on the same day.
