Brian Colwell, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Social & Behavioral Health at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Texas Department of State Health Services at the Texas Teen Tobacco Summit and Comprehensive Tobacco Prevention Conference.

Dr. Colwell’s career has focused on the prevention of tobacco use in youth as well as working on ways to assist adolescent smokers in quitting the use of tobacco.  He has been a member of the Best Practices in Youth Cessation workgroup sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Canadian Tobacco Control Consortium.  He is also currently working on other NIH-funded research projects that focus on youth tobacco use.  He was the 2006 recipient of the CDC Health Promotion Medal of Excellence.
