Dr. Huston elected to ABMS Health and Public Policy Committee

David Huston, M.D., of the Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) College of Medicine has been elected to serve on the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Health and Public Policy Committee (HPPC). The ABMS is a comprised of 24 medical specialty Member Boards, and is the pre-eminent entity overseeing the certification of physician specialists in the United States.

Made up of 12 members from across the United States, the HPPC is a leading voice for physicians on public policy related to physician specialization and self-regulation. It provides health policy statements to guide the ABMS and its 24 member boards regarding health care workforce, continuous professional development, physician assessment, professional self-regulation, health care quality, and patient safety, and serves as a trusted source of information for the public.

At the TAMHSC-College of Medicine, Dr. Huston is a professor of Internal Medicine and of Microbial and Molecular Pathogenesis; vice dean; and director of the Clinical Science and Translational Research Institute. He received his M.D. in 1973 from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University. He trained in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and completed fellowship training in rheumatology and in allergy and immunology at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He is listed among the Best Doctors in America, Top Doctors in America, and Texas Super Doctors. His research lab investigates the mechanisms regulating inflammation, and develops strategies for modulating immune responses and treating allergic and immunologic diseases.

Dr. Huston also serves on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ex officio), the ACGME Residency Review Committee for Allergy and Immunology, and NIH study sections. In addition, he is a member of the American Association of Physicians.
