Fourth Annual Conference Promotes Healthcare Careers
(CORPUS CHRISTI) – The Fourth Annual Conference promoting healthcare careers in schools sponsored by the Texas A&M Health Science Center – Coastal Bend Health Education Center will take place at the University Center on the Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi Campus on Wednesday, January 25th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Keynote speaker Mary D. Peterson, MD, MHA, medical director of the Driscoll Children’s Health Plan, associate professor of Anesthesiology at UTHSCSA and UTMB, will speak about the future of technology in healthcare and t he role of a caring professional.
More than 380 junior high and high school students, faculty sponsors and invited guests are expected to attend the “Future Healthcare Professionals Conference 2006”. Attending students are members of the Future Nurses Clubs, Healthcare Careers Clubs and other related clubs.
The conference promotes healthcare careers through an educational experience and encourages students to enter into advanced education programs in the Greater Coastal Bend to meet the healthcare needs projected in the future.
Dr. Peterson is a respected medical leader who has served on multiple committees, published numerous articles and presented countless public speeches. She is an educator, community servant and a dedicated mother of three sons.
A graduate of Texas A&M University with a BS in Zoology, Magna cum Laude, University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston with an MD and Trinity University with a Master’s in Health Care Administration, Dr. Peterson is Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. Her compassion for her patients and families and commitment to excellence is apparent in her many contributions and accomplishments.
Vendors will be in the Legacy Room adjacent to the Lone Star Ballroom. Tours will be in the Science and Technology Bldg., 3rd floor, east end of the University Center for a tour of the HERO Mobile Clinic and the Driscoll Children’s Hospital Ambulance at the parking lot adjacent to the University Center.
