Hong Guest Editor of Aids Care

Yan Hong, Ph.D.

Yan Hong, Ph.D., assistant professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health, is one of two guest editors for the June 2011 special issue of the peer-reviewed publication AIDS Care. Xiaoming Li, Ph.D., professor at Wayne State University School of Medicine, also served as co-guest editor of the June 2011 edition titled “Women and HIV in China.”

“Although the global AIDS pandemic has leveled off in recent years, the risk of HIV infection among women has not been reduced in many developing countries fueled by gender inequality, growing economic disparity and population movement,” according to Dr. Hong.  “In China heterosexual transmission of HIV is increasing rapidly.”

The special issue contains 12 articles by a multidisciplinary group of researcher from both China and the United States and reports on the major current issues related to HIV testing, prevention, and treatments for women in China, highlighting the importance of cross-disciplinary and internationally-collaborative efforts in HIV/AIDS research.
