Intern Recruitment Fair brings students, pharmacies together

Students of the Rangel College of Pharmacy talk with corporate recruiters.

Representatives from eight pharmacies throughout Texas came to Kingsville on Feb. 20-21 to recruit students for summer internship positions at the Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy.

“It’s great to be able to interview with the companies all in one place,” said Cody Faubion, first-year pharmacy student who lined up seven interviews at the fair.

Regina Del Bosque, second-year pharmacy student, agreed, noting the fair enables them “to meet future employers that will give us the exposure and opportunity to become great pharmacists.”

Indra K. Reddy, Ph.D., TAMHSC-Rangel College of Pharmacy professor and founding dean, met with pharmacy representatives during the event to express his appreciation.

“The Intern Recruitment Fair offers a great opportunity for our students to explore summer internships in the practice setting of their interest,” Dr. Reddy said. “Similarly, this fair provides a wonderful venue for our sponsors to promote their entities and select the best prospects for their sites. This has worked very well for the Rangel College of Pharmacy.”

Local pharmacies, retail chains and hospitals conducted more than 300 interviews for summer openings.

“It’s very beneficial to our relationship with the Rangel College of Pharmacy,” said Dawn Buchannan, CHRISTUS Spohn Health System recruiter. “We look forward to this event every year.”
