Search for IBT Director

The Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) has initiated a search for a new Director of the Institute of Biosciences & Technology (IBT).  IBT is a dedicated research institute that is housed within an 11-story research tower on the TAMHSC Houston campus, located within Texas Medical Center (TMC).  TAMHSC is comprised of six colleges/schools in addition to IBT, including: College of Medicine (Bryan/College Station and Temple); School of Rural Public Health and School of Nursing (Bryan/College Station); Baylor College of Dentistry (Dallas); and Rangel College of Pharmacy (Kingsville).  The School of Graduate Studies has programs in Bryan/College Station, Temple, Dallas, and Houston.  Additional information on TAMHSC can be found at www.tamhsc.edu.

IBT faculty and scientists have appointments in four thematic centers related to environmental and genetic medicine, cancer, development and stem cell biology, infectious and inflammatory diseases, and cardiovascular science. IBT faculty interact closely with scientists from Texas A&M University and other TMC institutions, including the University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Baylor College of Medicine, through collaborative research and joint programs for graduate training.  Additional information about the IBT is available at http://ibt.tamhsc.edu.

The Director is responsible for administration and oversight of IBT.  It is expected that he/she will direct a center with highly visible multidisciplinary research programs that are consistent with the IBT mission.  Particular emphasis will be placed on cancer biology, regenerative medicine and development, and translational research.  A joint faculty position with another component of TAMHSC or with a college within Texas A&M University is possible.

The Director provides oversight for the mission, direction, and research themes of IBT. He/she is responsible for the administrative supervision of faculty, center directors, and senior administrative staff.  The Director is also responsible for administration of IBT budget.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in a biomedical science and/or an M.D., a strong record of extramurally-funded research, and outstanding scientific publications appropriate for appointment as a Professor at TAMHSC.  He/she will be a recognized leader in biomedical research, and will also have a demonstrated record of administrative leadership in an academic-research environment, preferably as chair of a department, director of a research center, or similar administrative experience.
