Sharkey conducting Webcast on Food Security

Joseph Sharkey, Ph.D., M.P.H., R.D., professor and director of the Program for Research in Nutrition and Health Disparities at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health, will be presenting “Inequities in Food Security Across the Lifespan: Cultural and Geographic Issues” during a satellite conference and live webcast on February 1.  Sponsored by the South Central Public Health Training Center and the Alabama Public Health Training Center in partnership with the Alabama Department of Health, his presentation will focus on food security in a cultural and geographical context, importance of food security status in maintaining nutritional health across the lifespan, importance of understanding contextual influences on food security and healthy eating, and potential approaches for reducing food insecurity.
