TAMHSC announces a Twitter contest to solicit a new handle (or Twitter name) for Giroir. Contest runs Sept. 23-27.

Here’s the story:

Two weeks ago, Chancellor Sharp named a new executive vice president of Texas A&M Health Science Center. You may remember that he had an interesting name, but what’s in a name? A lot, actually. Whether it’s your last name, your dog’s name or your Twitter name, a name is important.

He comes to us from The Texas A&M University System, where he has been the vice chancellor of strategic initiatives – thus his current Twitter handle is @AggieVice.

So what’s this competition all about?

Dr. Giroir, our new interim executive vice president, needs a little refresh to his social media account. @AggieVice doesn’t seem quite right anymore and he has requested your help to come up with a new Twitter handle for his new position.

What’s in it for you?

The winner will have the opportunity to chat one-on-one over a tasty meal* with our new leader, and will also receive the newly designed TAMHSC challenge coin (not to mention praise and glory across all the TAMHSC Twitter channels). You may be wondering what a challenge coin is – don’t worry, you may not be alone. Historically, challenge coins have been used within the military. Many members of the U.S. Armed Forces carry them around and exchange them upon encounter with other unit members. Each coin bears the symbol or motto that identifies the group that they represent and accepting the coin shows your support of the organization’s mission. Drawing upon his strong military ties from working at DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency – part of the Dept. of Defense), Dr. Giroir plans to exchange our challenge coin with colleagues he meets who support the health science center. You could be one of the “prominent few” to receive one of these rare tokens.

*The Executive Office will contact the winner to schedule date, time and location. A restaurant in the town of the winner’s home campus will be selected.

The rules:

  1. You must be a current student, faculty or staff member of TAMHSC
  2. You must follow @TAMHSC and/or @AggieVice to enter suggestions
  3. You must tweet your entry to @TAMHSC
  4. Your tweet must include the hashtag: #WhoisGiroir

All entries must be submitted by 5pm on Friday, September 27. Dr. Giroir will then choose his favorite handle and the winner will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Good luck!
