Four COM faculty named emeritus professors

(COLLEGE STATION, TX) — Four retired faculty members from the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine were named emeritus professors by the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents during its March 30 meeting.

Walter P. Dyck, M.D., received the Professor Emeritus title in the Department of Internal Medicine after retiring last March. He served Scott & White for 38 years and was executive associate dean of the HSC-COM for 10 years.

Also honored was J. Benjamin Green III, M.D., of the Department of Internal Medicine, who was on the Scott & White staff since 1973 and retired this spring. He continues to serve the HSC-COM as associate dean for Undergraduate Medical Education and director of the Office of Educational Development.

In the Department of Pediatrics, Robert E. Myers, M.D., received Professor Emeritus status. He joined the faculty in 1977 and served as department head from 1979-85. He became a full professor in 1981 and retired from the HSC-COM and Scott & White in 1998.

Elvin E. Smith, Ph.D., received the honor in the Department of Systems Biology and Translational Medicine. A longtime administrator and faculty member, he served the HSC-COM as associate dean, acting and interim dean during his tenure from 1975 to 2002.
