COM dean testifies before U.S. Senate committee

(COLLEGE STATION, TX) Christopher C. Colenda, M.D., M.P.H., Thomas McMullin dean of the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, testified before the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging on Sept. 14 regarding the issues of depression and suicide among older Americans.

U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Oregon, chair of the Senate Aging Committee, requested Dr. Colenda speak during Suicide Awareness Week, as the Committee is focusing on geriatric suicide. Dr. Colenda was chosen to speak because of his expertise in the subjects as a geriatric psychiatrist, as well as his position as a medical school dean and the president of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.
