The 15th Disaster Day is in the books! This mass disaster response simulation, held Friday, challenged interprofessional teams of students to work collaboratively to provide a high level of patient care in an emergency—in this case, a hurricane. More than 700 students in athletic training, dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, psychology, public health, and veterinary medicine diagnosed, treated and cared for “patients” played by trained volunteers.
The addition of medical evacuation drills by @stjosephhealthtx, @usairforce 59th Air Medical Wing and @txsg_official 136th Airlift Wing made this the most immersive event yet. Thanks and gig `em to @teexpics for once again hosting this event at Disaster City. And let`s give a big "Whoop!" to the group of 60 students and their faculty advisors who worked for months on the student planning committee to make this year`s event bigger and better than ever!
Other important collaborators include @tdemtv, @heb, @maysbusiness, and Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC).
